About Possum Merino
The brushtail possum was introduced to New Zealand in the 1850's and is now wreaking havoc on our natural wildlife and native forest. The need to control the number of possums to protect our native flora and fauna saw the development of this specialised natural fibre. By incorporating New Zealand Merino wool and Possum fur, we have created a unique high-quality yarn that has proven to be popular with New Zealanders, visitors and knitwear companies around the world.
Did you know... Possum fibre has no scales and is hollow (makes it lightweight & warm). Possum fibre is silky to handle and possum fibre will not freeze, even when exposed to prolonged cold snaps. This unique blend of possum fur and merino creates a piling retardant fibre. Possum fur is low-pill and anti-static which means the garment can be worn for years and look good as new!
