The Basics
In 2007, the chance to acquire Norsewear retail stores presented itself to Phil and Julie. Having already dedicated four years to Norsewear and stemming from a generational tradition of home knitting deeply rooted in New Zealand wool, stepping into ownership felt like a seamless transition. Their commitment was clear: to uphold the essence of 'New Zealand Made' within the business.
During the challenging times of the last recession, Phil and Julie displayed resilience by embracing the 'number 8 wire' mentality, a quintessentially Kiwi approach to problem-solving, coupled with a profound work ethic. These qualities not only saw them through those tough times but allowed them to thrive and grow. Presently, they successfully manage both retail stores and a thriving e-commerce venture, embodying the true spirit of Norsewear's legacy."
The Wopwops Wetland Park
The Wopwops Wetland Park came to life in 2010 when we transformed a sheep paddock into a haven for our community. Here, visitors could explore for free and witness the beauty of the endangered Long Finn Eel thriving in its natural habitat. Our pride lay in not only providing a sanctuary but also allowing visitors to engage with these unique creatures by feeding them with specially crafted, in-house Eel food.
Our journey didn't end there. We remain committed to the continuous development of the Wetland park. Our vision involves expanding the park with new walkways and pathways, inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the tranquil beauty of this natural wonder. Stay tuned as we evolve, always striving to create a more enriching experience for all who step into the Wopwops Wetland Park
The Settlers Heritage Gallery
At Settlers Heritage Gallery, step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Norsewood's history dating back to its beginnings. Over the span of 150 years, visitors can journey through the evolution of this village, gaining a deeper understanding of its roots and development.
The vision extends beyond the gallery walls. Phil's passion for preserving Norsewood's heritage drives the Norsewood Village Heritage Trail initiative. With 33 captivating installations along the trail, this venture is a testament to the village's cultural legacy. Phil's dedication is further bolstered by ongoing support from the council, ensuring this trail becomes a cherished historical experience for generations to come.
